Title: Twilight of the Clans
Post by: Ghost Paladin117 on June 09, 2018, 10:15:20 AM
I'm on the last parts of the series and so far the Smoke Jaguar has gotten it's ass kicked. Great books. At the part now where operation serpent has ended and the reinforcements are going to challenge the other crusaders. GHOST BEARS announce switch in mentality after seeing the prowess of IS warriors.

Have to say with a few exceptions the Battletech novels are very well written. I kinda expected it from people like Zahn and Stackpole having read their star wars stuff but still that's what got me into clans rather than opponents/targets I'd seen from Mech warrior and commander

Stackpole and Zahn are their best writers. And Stackpole has been there from the beginning.

Yeah he's among my favorites. There are others I really like too. The author of the Black Thorns series is good too

Agreed, really good writers, but their editing sucks...Muy OCD alter ego has underlined every typo/incorrect referece-of which there are many...Still, good reads and opens the Universe a little more with each one

Crunch quite liked that series. He had hoped for a few more about the Black Thorns as they are known to have survived to at least 3070 however they fate after that is unknown (they were on Galedon when a plague was accidentally released on the planet. They did get a scenario book though.

Stackpole's first Battletech books (1987) was the Warrior series about Justin Allard (father of Kai Allard). The submitted manuscripts for all  3 books were about 1/4 to 1/3 longer than requested and Stackpole was told to edit them down to the requested size by the book company. He told them he could not and still tell the story adequately. In effect he said no. He won. And thus one of the best series of all the BT books were written. Right up there with the Kerensky series (which featured Phelan Kell), also written by Stackpole. And he wrote the novellas for the new Battletech game (as part of some of the backer kits).

It takes every fibre of Crunch's being to not pull out a highlighter and marking bad spelling and grammar in any book. It drives him crazy.

Yeah it's the Blood of Kerensky series that got me interested in the Clans and also the Battletech universe outside of MW4 and the Mechcommanders.

Correct. It introduced us to Phelan and the beginning of his story with the Clans. Victor, Kai and Hohiro were also introduced and prominent.

I bet Tom clan he would have been amazing doing a clan novel. Maybe Iíll try my hand. I am not bad at writing. I just hate papers. Canít imagine writing 500 pages.

Crunch cannot remember if the CGBI library has all the novels from the beginning through to the end of the Jihad. If not, it should have most of them.

Yep Redthor the majority can be found in .doc or .PDF format in the CGBI library, only a few exceptions. Fantastic reads.

Crunch had no issue with the link. It is likely connected to your rank and its' permissions. He is willing to bet anyone not MW or higher cannot access the library.

Just finished the twilight of the Clans series, so good. Actually somewhat respect the Jade falcons and the crusader wolves. Too bad the falcons in the dark ages are as bad as the original smoke jaguars, barbarians.

Crunch has not read any of the novels after the FedCom Civil War. That is when he stopped playing the tabletop game/MW 4. He has read some of the short stories from BattleCorps from the Jihad period. And a couple after that. He still thinks the earlier novels were the best.

On illusions of victory now, Solaris warrior novel. Looks decent so far.

Loren Coleman is by far the best in my opinion. The level of detail and how he approaches larger conflicts and all its aspects and strategies as well as the dialogues are amazing! I'd have to say the Capellan Solution series where the Capellan Confederation launches a war to re-absorb the St. Ives Compact is my favorite series. The Fedcom Civil War is another amazing series as well by Coleman

Yeah it was interesting but all the story involving Sun Tzu just irritates me. He is almost as devilish as Katrina.

That's why I love it! The Confederation has been crapped on for basically the entire timeline of the Inner Sphere and especially during the era Battletech covers. I always root for the underdog and itís great to see the Capellans be resurgent. Alas it needed someone cunning and 'devilish' like Sun-Tzu ;)

I like the compact and that sun Tzu is working with what he has but even still he is likely the most expansionist of all the IS leaders. I like Davion and Kurita leaders and story. Mostly bc Davion is represented as the overall good guys but I like the Light side of the force haha. The new Stackpole novels that came out with Battletech the game are great mercenary novels.
