YouTube CGBI HPG's Gameplay Hosting: Phase 0
« on: June 13, 2017, 09:48:05 PM »
Hello everyone! I was tossing around the idea of CGBI using the youtube account (our YT HPG) to upload matches with some commentary, like a lot of other people do right now.

Now, before we can proceed further, we just need to "verify" that we can provide footage that proves our mettle! Gameplay is important, but we also need it to be in good recorded quality, cause I don't know about you guys, but I feel that the more HD the destruction, the better! All are welcome to submit their matches.

There's also the matter of finding people who can actually comment on the footage, but we can't really now who can do that until we have videos to practice with :(

Therefore, I'd like you guys to post your matches here for now, and we'll see how this goes. Maybe one of you guys will feel inspired and take a crack at making some post-commentary! I know I've met plenty of friends here who have quite a lot to say, and can imagine this working out.

Fingers crossed :I

I'm also working on recording my own matches to be submitted. Just posting this to:

1. Verify that I can make a recording with good video quality

2. Ask others if this is actually not good quality

3. Show what good video quality looks like/does not look like

It's a good idea, but you need to be able to bump it up to 1080p @ 60fps without any frame drops to be on par with other MWO gameplay videos. PC permitting, anything above this is a bonus.

I sometimes stream to twitch, but rarely record footage. I might be tempted to edit and commentate other people's footage, though. It's a good way to split the workload.

Does my test video have fps below 60? I could record my games in 1080 if I use my tv and wireless keyboard+mouse. Don't think the frame rate will drop (due to lag when uploaded or something) when I do that.

Hm, ok maybe 1080p 60 fps is a little too much to ask right now from us XD

If you can up it to at least 720 60 fps Jason, I think that's pretty decent considering how we're just starting out.

I can do 1080p 60fps, I'll record some footage to show you the difference. Or you can just check out some video's already on youtube for comparison.

At present the best I can do is the 720 @ 60 (at least in game is 60fps) not sure what it finishes at when uploading to Youtube.  Still new at behind the scenes on YouTube so not sure how to check the FPS of the vid.

As far as I know, the video being labelled "60 fps" in YouTube depends on whether the recording software is set to record at 60 fps (this was the case for my test video). Check if what you use to record footage is set that way.

Additional editing software might mess up the framerate, but I'm no expert.

Well here's the first real match I'll upload here. Nothing special really. Quite a bit of mistakes. But then again it also gives you things to talk about.

Mech: HBK IIC-A
Weapons: x6 MPL
Misc: x4 JJ, x1 Tcomp Mk. I, x1 AMS (1 ton ammo)

i used the nVidia shadowplay to record and its set for 60fps @ 720, can bump that up to 1080 @ 60fps, but when I save it to an upload-able format via Movie Maker i select YouTube - so that might detract from the FPS.  I'll try saving it for HD display & see if that works.

So what did I learn from that trainwreck of a video (which is my last upload but with commentary over it)?

1. I really need to work on my non-scripted talking. 2. Huh so this build can work afterall

But anyway, putting that thing together really did make me feel like some progress was made in being ready to make videos for the YT account, despite being stuck at square one: no (at least 720p 60fps) videos are to be found yet, which leads to not knowing if anyone can actually talk well over the gameplay.

Shadowplay (thanks Jason) was used to record, my headset (plugged into my phone) recorded my voice, and HitFilm Express put it all together. If anyone finds other editing software that can make the final output in the needed video quality, let me know.

Well, guess this is gonna be on hold for a bit. Can't seem to get recordings from others. Will try doing some recording of my own matches on another channel though.
