RP Fan-Fiction?
« on: November 02, 2017, 04:55:28 PM »
Hey all,

So just for kicks and giggles I dabble in writing fan-fiction covering in-game pilots and exploits.  I've written stories for CWI, Exiled Keshik and SROT during my time with each unit.  Was wondering if that's ever been something that's interested anyone here as in if they'd like to read whatever I make.

Aldus actually didn't something similar a number of years ago, it was a good read. I know I'm always interested in reading stuff like that.

Here's a little excerpt from my time with Epsilon Galaxy before it became the Ebon Keshik.  We were a unit that formed from a mass exodus from CWI.  Our lore story involved us gaining a legitimate standing among the Clans as a separate entity through a Trial of Refusal.  After which we would move amongst the Clan invasion corridors fighting where we were most needed.  This particular story detailed our orbital advance on the Planet Skokie during one of the FP Phases (I think it was Phase 3).  The story and characters involved are either connected to or help lead up to particular experiences in MWO Faction Play.  This particular one is a prelude to a fairly bitter fight we had back in the day where we had two Drops worth of pilots working all night to capture the Planet Skokie in Faction Play.

March 28th, 3050
Overlord Dropship Howl
Skokie, Free Rasalhague Republic

Galaxy Commander JD Chi’in activated his magnetic boots and gripped the edges of the command bridge’s holotank as the Overlord Dropship Howl lost its gravity generator under the punishing attention of a pair of Stuka aerospace fighters.  A few desultory barrages from the ship’s point-defense batteries chased the fighters but as the crews were still reeling from the attack run, none of the blasts came anywhere near the enemy fighters as they banked away to harass the rest of the landing force.  The Galaxy Commander scowled and directed his attention to the nearest comm-tech.

“Tell Star Captain Larick that if his Omnifighters cannot adequately defend my flotilla he will be facing a Trial of Grievance upon our landing,” he snarled.  A return visit from the offending Stuka’s caused the entire Dropship to quake and shudder and the Galaxy Commander cursed loudly as he once again was forced to steady himself.

If we land.

“Aff Galaxy Commander!” came the shout from the frightened comm-tech as he diverted his attentions to relaying JD’s not so subtly veiled threat to Star Captain Larick.

The invasion of the Inner Sphere, so recently begun after the Clan’s long exile in the Kerensky Cluster, had started off with a bang…literally.  All across the outside edge of the periphery of a trio of Successor States, planets fell in a veritable wave as the avenging Clans announced their return to the Inner Sphere with a vengeance.  The wrath of the Clans had been unleashed and the units defending the planets in their path towards Terra fell quickly and messily as the warriors of each Clan unleashed generations of pent up aggression and anger.

Epsilon Galaxy had played a vital role in this violent homecoming and were about to play another pivotal role as they won the right to attack and potentially claim the Free Rasalhague Republic planet of Skokie.  Although they had already fought on a number of worlds throughout the various invasion corridors of the Clans, this was the first planet for which they had won the right to invade and potentially hold as their own.  A task that the leaders and warriors of Epsilon Galaxy had accepted with zeal as they began preparations for their invasion.

Lately though, the terrifying momentum of the Clans had begun to stymie.  If reports were to be believed, a few of the worthless freebirth units opposing their return had actually defeated a number of units from each of the invading Clans.  Galaxy Commander Chi’in had yet to confirm these reports as relations with the invading Clans were somewhat strained at the moment to say the least and accurate information was difficult to come by.  The only evidence he did have to support these claims were evident though as Epsilon Galaxy continued to pursue the agenda of the Clans.

He and his fellow commanders had been observing the increasing size of enemy garrisons along with a large step up in the quality of warriors and equipment that they were facing.  No longer were they fighting ill-trained and underequipped Militias, but seasoned and well-armed frontline regiments.  Already the Dorbeng Garrison Cluster had been called upon to shift warriors to some of Epsilon’s frontline Clusters as holes began to appear in the Touman roster.

The evidence as to the increased quality and number of warriors impeding their continued advance corewards towards Terra was present in Epsilon Galaxy’s current endeavor as their flotilla burned their way in-system.  Arrayed against them on their approach towards Skokie was a heavy contingent of aerospace fighters from the 2nd Drakons which was further augmented by a recently swollen aerospace element from the planet’s Militia.  As the Howl passed by the broken and gutted carcass of one of his Sabutai Omnifighters, the Galaxy Commander couldn’t help but observe that they were pursuing their job of hindering Epsilon’s advance with admirable zeal.

What awaited them planet side was another matter entirely.  The announcement of their batchall and intent to take the planet informed them that not only would they have to contend with the 2nd Drakons and the planetary militia, which reports stated was at or above battalion strength, but that they would also be facing off against the Sons of Odin and Isengrim, two strong and reputable units if the data banks onboard were to be believed.

Thankfully the 2nd Drakons had been mauled early on during the commencement of Operation Revival so Galaxy Commander Chi’in surmised that at best they would be facing somewhere around two and a half regiments of Mechs.  Not including the various support regiments of armor and infantry which he casually disregarded with the disdain of a Trueborn warrior who considered anything lower than an Omnimech to be inconsequential.

Now only if we can get planetside.

After leaving the Kerensky Cluster, Khan Deejay Rhyde had made a quick stop at the Snow Raven enclave on Brim in order to acquire the Essex-Class Destroy Eternity during a fierce and bitter Trial of Possession fought on the planet’s unforgiving moon.  The Eternity was joined by the Black Lion-Class Warship Blood Drinker and were currently spearheading the planet-bound approach of the entire Epsilon Galaxy Touman.

Unfortunately, due to the vast size of the forces approaching the planet, not every ship could be protected.  A fact that was reinforced as the Union Dropship Iron Will broke apart as it was singled-out and subjected to repeated waves of enemy aerospace fighters.  With it went an entire Binary from the 35th Battle Cluster.  JD cringed as he watched the Dropship break up, spewing debris, equipment, and bodies into the unforgiving vastness of space.

Star Colonel Ward is not going to be pleased.

“Inform the Dropship In Honor Clad to render aid to any survivors of the Iron Will.  Divert elements from the Blood Drinker’s fighter screen to serve as an escort,” called the Galaxy Commander as he ground his teeth in frustration.  He did not relish delivering the loss of the Iron Will and its cargo to Khan Rhyde, who was currently keeping company with ilKhan Leo Showers aboard the Clan Wolf flagship, the Dire Wolf.

“Give me a direct channel to Star Admiral Conners!” he yelled, not caring who carried out the task, as long as it was done.

After a brief second, the hiss-pop of an opening and secure comm-link announced that he was connected with the Star Admiral, who was currently directing the engagement from the bridge of the Blood Drinker.

“Galaxy Commander, I kn-,” began Star Admiral Alicia Conners before he cut her off mid-sentence.

“Spare me your excuses Alicia,” he began, deliberately omitting the use of her Bloodname.  “I have four entire Clusters with me, the entirety of our Touman, and you are in danger of allowing them to be destroyed before they can even make planetfall.  Might I remind you that it is your job to escort my forces planetside and intact?”

Wisely, she did not bother with making excuses, a trait that JD despised.  “Galaxy Commander, I take full responsibility for our current losses and assure you that the Iron Will will be the last to fall,” she replied, knowing full well that he would hold her to account if she failed to deliver on her promises.

“Now, if you will excuse me Galaxy Commander JD,” he smiled at her lack of respect as she returned the favor of not acknowledging his Bloodname as well, “I have a battle to win and would much appreciate not having to deal with anymore distractions as, since you have pointed out, I have a job to do.”

“By all means Star Admiral, do not let me get in your way, just get me to Skokie” he replied before cutting the link.

Such an attitude on that one.

As he returned his attention to the holotank, JD watched as Alica rallied her flagging forces and brought the Eternity and Blood Drinker to the fore of their formation, creating a spear tip aimed at the heart of the enemy fleet.  Her Omnifighters and Naval-Class Dropships she spread to either side of her Warships, forming a rough arrowhead formation on the holotank.  The Dropships transporting the entirety of Epsilon Galaxy’s invading forces were shepherded behind the Star Admiral’s formation.

What it lacked in subtlety it more than made up for in lethality as Star Admiral Conners resumed hostilities with the defending enemy aerospace contingent as she ordered her fleet forward.  Lives were lost in great quantities on both sides as pilots were consumed by their exploding fighter’s and crewman were sucked out into the void as compartments were violently torn open, expelling their contents in short but brief fiery exhalations of men and debris.

Back and forth the trading of ordnance went, but the result was a foregone conclusion as Epsilon Galaxy, while up against stiff resistance, had two Warships to call upon.  And call upon them they did as Star Admiral Conners waded her ships into the enemy formation, their point-defense batteries gutting enemy fighters as they made attack runs on their densely armored hulls.  Leaving a trail of torn and broken aerospace fighters and debris in their wake as they waded further into the enemy’s embrace.  Two Naval-Class enemy Dropships were systematically isolated and demolished after a series of brutal and punishing broadsides from both the Eternity and Blood Drinker and as their broken and tumbling carcasses spun off into deep space, the enemy formation broke and fled back towards Skokie.

Galaxy Commander JD watched with satisfaction as the enemy began their orderly withdrawal and began issuing orders to his Star Colonel’s aboard their respective Dropships in preparation for their landing.  After speaking with each of his subordinates individually, the Galaxy Commander turned towards the door leading from the bridge and began a slow, steady, and stomping walk towards the hangar and his waiting Omnimech as the gravity generators had still not been repaired.

Just as he reached the threshold of the bridge, the frightened comm-tech from earlier called out to him.
“Galaxy Commander!  Star Admiral Conners relays that the way is clear,” he said.

“Aff, I know,” he replied distractedly, not even turning to look at him.

“She…she also wished for me to relay to you a message Galaxy Commander,” he replied, his voice quaking as his nerves threatened to overcome him.

This has got to be good. JD thought to himself, already having some inkling as to the content of the message.

Turning to the frightened comm-tech he fixed him with an unflinching gaze, reveling in the fear that he evoked in the young man.

“Send it,” he growled.

“She says, ‘The way is clear Galaxy Commander.  Happy now?”  He gulped loudly as he awaited the wrath of his Galaxy Commander in response to the Star Admiral’s message.

He was surprised, not to mention a little relieved, when the Galaxy Commander laughed, turned and walked from the bridge.

Either or works for me.  Depends on if the Bloodname is an Elemental one I suppose.
